Mansfield Airport to Improve Runway with Grant Money

$255,000 in grant money will be used to clear trees at either end of the runway.

The runway at the Mansfield Municipal Airport is getting an update thanks to $255,000 in grant money, according to the Sun Chronicle

The grants--$198,000, or 90 percent, of it from the Federal Aviation Administration, 7.5 percent from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and 2.5 from the town's Airport Enterprise Fund--will pay to clear trees at both ends runway.

The measure will elongate the approach to the 3,500 by 75-foot runway, making it safer for pilots trying to land at the airport, said Town Manager Bill Ross. The Board of Selectmen approved the grant unanimously.
