The Mansfield Board of Selectmen recently voted 5-0 to allow a new constable to work in Mansfield.
Edward Maddingly Jr. applied to work in Mansfield as a court constable, handing out court summons and performing the other duties of the job.
"I’ve been doing this full time,” he said. “It is law enforcement, but it is a business. I’ve been trying to get into different towns to expand my business.”
Maddingly said that he has worked in Taunton, Stoughton, Easton, Foxborough and Raynham.
Mansfield town manager William Ross said that police chief Arthur O’Neill approved of the application. Ross added that Mansfield has 12 acting constables, excluding Maddingly.
