Mansfield’s Joseph Kaplan will be arriving at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday in Charlotte North Carolina.
He said this will be the fourth convention that he’s been to, and says that he’s there all day for more than just the speakers.
“The convention in Charlotte won’t start until 4 p.m.,” he said. “There are many other activities.”
Kaplan said he will be participating in many different sessions and caucuses throughout the day to get more cohesion between the party and the state of Massachusetts(and subsequently Mansfield).
Through these types of proceedings, Kaplan said he’s worked with George McGovern and Michael Dukakis.
“You don’t see that on TV,” he said. “I try to go with the grass roots mentality. I kind of see it as a launch for this election to bring it back to the states and localities.”
Kaplan said he’s looking forward to former president Bill Clinton’s nomination speech.
“I think he’s the most popular living president,” he said. “His endorsement and support might help to get back some of the independent voters and straying Democrats.”
Marilyn Powers and Randall Tatum will also be delegates representing Mansfield during the convention.
