President of the Mansfield Elks Lodge 3880 Mark Walsh presented $2,000 to the town of Mansfield at the last Board of Selectmen meeting.
“We are part of a nationwide organization dedicated to helping our local communities,” Walsh said.
Walsh said that the Elks raised the funds from the lodge’s members as part of the national organization’s goal from the Elks National Foundation. Walsh said the Mansfield lodge gets back more in scholarships than the national organization than what their members donate to the national organization.
“In the last few years we became the larges donor of scholarships in the U.S.,” Walsh said of the nationwide organization.
They gave a total of $2,000, split up between various organizations of the town. They gave $600 to the North Common Flag Pole replacement project, $700 to the Mansfield Council on Aging for fuel assistance program and $700 for the Our Daily Bread Food Pantry.
“This is what makes me proud of this community and what makes this community,” Mansfield selectmen Doug Annino said. “It really makes a big difference in a lot of lives.”
