Mansfield Named as "Surrounding Community" For Slot Machines at Plainridge Racecourse

Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville is currently under negotiations with Penn National Gaming over the impact adding slot machines would have on the area and that talks with most town designated "surrounding communities," including Mansfield, are off to a good start, according to the Sun Chronicle

Although Town Manager Bill Ross and the Board of Selectmen don't expect there to be much impact on Mansfield, which only shared a small border with Plainville on Interstate 495, they agreed it's important to be included in the mitigation in case there are ways the town could be affected.

"My concern is mutual aid," said Board of Selectmen Chairman Judge Aptowitz at last Wednesday's meeting. "I want to feel real comfortable that [Plainville] is adequately staffed up to handle this facility," so that the police department isn't over-burdened with calls for assistance.
