Mansfield Police Chief Search Continuing

Mansfield town manager says process moving forward for finding a replacement for current chief Arthur O'Neill.

Mansfield town manager William Ross said that the process for finding a replacement for police chief Arthur O’Neill is moving along.

“I’ve sent a letter to the [Massachusetts] Civil Service [Commission] for utilization of assessment center for evaluating a new chief,” Ross said. “They said that my letter was spot on, sending me an agreement

He added that the assessment center will review applicants and their forms to see who is qualified to take up the position.

Ross has said in the past that the town will be looking for candidates from the Mansfield Police Department.

"O'Neil’s done an excellent job in recruiting quality people and training them," he said in June. "We have qualified internal candidates and we want to give them the opportunity."

Ross said that he hopes that an appointment can be made by Jan. 2013 so that O’Neill discuss a retirement time with the appointee in the Spring.
