Mansfield Selectmen Roundup: Comcast Concerns, New Employees and Big Checks

The following is a summary of actions at the Mansfield Board of Selectmen Meeting on Wednesday, July 11.

Mansfield selectmen welcomed the new town clerk Mary Ann Staples. She is not yet acting, but current town clerk Helen Christian will be acclimating her to the town. Mansfield town manager William Ross said that his newest executive secretary Deb Herbert started last week.

Representative Elizabeth Porior came by the meeting to present a check to the Mansfield Council on Aging for $2,000 from funds raised at the Senior Spectacular.

The Mansfield Elks also presented funds raised for the town. They gave $600 for the North Common Flagpole replacement project, $700 for the Mansfield COA Fuel Assistance Project and $700 for the Mansfield Our Daily Bread food pantry.

Coventry Lawyer Edward Roy, who alleged last month that his daughter was ignored by the Comcast Center security force, came in and gave suggestions on how to improve security at the concert venue.

Ross said that there has been a complication in the new parking collection boxes at the MBTA train station parking lot are on hold due to an MBTA construction issue.

Mansfield town accountant John Standbrook presented the year-end funds transfers in the 2011 fiscal-year budget. He said that $120,321 was transferred from the budget for other uses.

Mansfield selectmen read a letter asking for help to recruit members for the Mansfield Housing Corporation.

Ross said that the fuel canopy at the Mansfield Department of Public Works is completed. He added that the Kate Spring Well is now operational, but 99 percent complete, and the Walsh Spring Well is 95 percent complete but not yet operational. He said that the Albertini well is about 80 percent complete and is expected to be operational in August.
