Mansfield Selectmen Roundup: Police Positions, Downtown and Fall Town Meeting

The following is a summary of items discussed at the Sept. 12, 2012 Mansfield Board of Selectmen's meeting.

The Mansfield Police Department performed an induction ceremony for three new officers (Mark Lennore absent on vacation) and the promotion to sergeant of another. Christopher Walsh and David Kerr were inducted as new recruits and David Sennott returned to duty after a serious back injury. Officer Roy Bain was also promoted to a full sergeant position after being an active sergeant for a few months.

The Cocmast Cable Company sent a letter stating that the channel WGBX HD will be switching from channel 818 to 801.

Recently appointed Finance Committee member Jim Regazzo sent a letter to selectmen stating that he can no longer serve on the committee and the Planning Board.

Mansfield Town Manager William Ross said that Mansfield is currently going through the process of holding a special town meeting in November.

Greg Matoian, Glenn Nirenberg and Dorine Boyd came in to discuss the recent real estate assessments from the year 2011 and how it will affect the tax structure.

Mansfield Department Lee Azinheira discussed a recent change to the water operator position in the DPW to a working/learning position to help increase applicants for the position.

Former finance committee member Tim Lazzara and Paul Cusson Delphic Associates of New Bedford came in to discuss the new development of the Spring Street Mill Apartments and how they can submit to the Department of Housing and Community Development for affordable housing requirements. Selectmen discussed the current plan for parking downtown, which would include a measure to make North Main Street parking on the street a two hour limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
