Michael Trowbridge and Kiera O'Neil win the two contested School Committee Seats

The tallies for the Mansfield town election came in at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with incumbent Michael Trowbridge and challenger Kiera O'Neil winning the contested seats in the school committee.

O'Neil won overall with 850 votes and Trowbridge came in at 581. Wayne Smith Jr. received 555 votes, and Frank DelVecchio came in at 511.Christopher Cambell received 139 votes, and 323 ballots for the election came in blank.

The amount of votes taken at the town election by 8 p.m. were 1,481, which is less than 10 percent of the eligible voting population in Mansfield.

"It's kind of a hollow victory to lose somebody like Frank Delvecchio," Trowbridge said. "He's done a good job on the school committee, but the people have spoken. I think the low turnout that we had is somewhat responsible."

Kiera O'Neil, who received 28.7 percent of the votes, said she didn't expect to win by such a wide margin. Now that she's on the board, she said she wants to build a stronger line of communication between the board and parents.

"I would like to see the school commitee really redeem itself," she said. "I think the vote shows how the people are feeling and I think it's important to serve the town."
