Primary Voter Turnout Already Higher than Expected in Mansfield

Mansfield voter turnout already higher than expected according to Town Clerk.

Polls opened on Super Tuesday in Mansfield at 7 a.m. for the Massachusetts Republican Primary, and already turnout is higher than anticipated.

"It's been slow but steady," Mansfield town clerk Helen Christian said. "We're higher than we thought."

As of the 4 p.m. count, 1,212 people came out to vote in the primary. Christian said that she expects more turnout later in the evening, as people's schedules and work hours start to clear up.

"You've definietly got your spurts," she said. "In the morning you'll have the elderly that come in to the late morning, afternoon. After school, you've got the parents coming in with the kids and tonight you'll have the working people."

Christian said that, usually, voter count can be estimated to double after 4 p.m. because of the demografic distribution of schedules for different people.
