Should government committees and officials be allowed to participate remotely?

Mansfield Selectment to allow members absent for good cause to attend meetings via technology after a recent Massachusetts Attorney General's ruling.

The measure allows any school committee member to remotely participate after they have cleared their absence with the body's chair and given notice ahead of time.

While selectmen voted in the use of this measure, some government bodies, such as the school committee, agreed they would not use it.

The stipulations for being absent during a meeting are as follows: personal illness, personal disability, emergency, military service, or geographic distance.
