On Jobs Tour, Brown Visits With Covidien Employees, Highlights Repeal Of Medical Device Tax

U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) continued his statewide jobs tour Thursday, speaking with employees of Covidien, a leading healthcare and device and supply company.

Brown has filed multiple bills to immediately repeal the 2.3 percent tax on medical device manufacturers in the federal health care legislation.

Massachusetts is a leader in medical technology and the tax is a significant concern for the sector, which employs roughly 20,000 Massachusetts residents.

“People all across the Commonwealth have made it clear to me that the issue that weighs most on their mind is jobs,” Brown said. “The medical technology sector is an engine that helps to drive our state’s economy and holds tremendous potential for job growth. As a co-chair of the Senate Med-Tech Caucus, I am focused on policies that will allow medical technology companies to flourish in Massachusetts.”
