Selectman Aptowitz Wants Some Mansfield Homes Reassessed

Selectman says some home in Mansfield may be undervalued.

Mansfield selectman Jess Aptowitz said on Wednesday that he wants the town to take a closer look at some properties he believes have been undervalued.

“I’ve done some cursory reviews,” he said. “Not to be a Grinch, it looks like there are a lot of residential properties that look to me like they’re undervalued compared to others.”

Mansfield currently uses Vision Appraisal for the town’s assessments on residential property values.

Aptowitz said he doesn’t think there’s any wrongdoing going on, but he wants to make sure the town is getting the correct appraisals and tax revenue.

“I want to kind of shake the trees a little bit,” he said. “I’m sure they are other appraisal services out there. I’m not saying we get rid of them, I’m saying we need to look at that because that’s how we make our money.”

Aptowitz works as a real estate agent in  Mansfield as well as Foxborough and North Attleoro.

“I got a list today of [appraisals] and I was like there’s no way, how can that be,” he said. “I think we need to hone in on that because there’s revenue sitting on the table just from evaluation issues. I’m really concerned about that; people should be paying their fair share.”
