Selectmen Consider More Parking Spaces for MBTA

The Board of Selectmen agree that commuter rail parking is a big issue in town and vowed to continue looking into it.

The Mansfield Board of Selectmen is considering adding new parking spaces for those who take the Commuter Rail in and out of Boston every day, something they agree is badly needed in the town.

Potential ares proposed for parking spaces include an empty lot on Draper Ave., the east side of Old Colony Road, and Samoset Avenue to East Street along the Old Colony walking trail.

Town Manager Bill Ross said the new parking cannot be added until lease agreements in the area are looked at and the Selectmen decided more information was on the issue was needed.

Chairman Jess Aptowitz expressed frustration at the many residents who park there when they shouldn't. "We're investigating that," he said. "Parking is definitely on our plate. We're not going to put this off.
