Town Report Now In

See which public employee has made over the last year

The town's 2010 Annual Report is available free at Town Hall, and it is a treasure trove of information for those who are curious about the funding of the town and the machinations of town government.

Not only does it include facts on Mansfield demographics, election results and a blow-by-blow description of last year's town meeting articles, but residents can see who in the employ of the town and school departments draw the biggest salaries. About two dozen town and school employees drew over $100,000 in the 2009 - 2010 year, not counting benefits.

Not surprisingly, the top dog is the Chief of Police, Arthur O'Neill, at a little over $186.000. Hard on his heels is then-town manager John D'Agostino, at $178,000, followed by School Superintendent Brenda Hodges at a little under $157,000.

Of the 14 on the municipal side of the list, five come from the town's electric department. Electric department director Gary Babin was paid $135,000, and department members Chris Cox, Shawn Curran, Gary D'Ambra, and Thomas Weir also make the $100,000 cut.

Town department heads Lee Azinheira of the DPW and Nick Riccio, the town's building inspector, join four police department staff including the Chief, Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini, and Deputy Fire Chief Jim Puleo at the top of the list.

The school department's list is shorter, and counts top special education specialists, some building principals, a few department heads, the head guidance counselor, and school district finance director Ed Vozzella.

How much an employee makes is based on a combination of factors - education level, experience, and the number of years he or she has worked for the town. Within the school district, the base salary is governed also by step increases that have to do with continuing education as well as years in the school system

Many positions also require extra work, in the form of special details or additional responsibilities, listed separately and added into the total.

The town report, hot off the press, is available at Town Hall to any resident.
