An Evening with Dads and Daughters

Together We Can sponsors the 19th Annual Father – Daughter Dance

A special outfit, a sparkly pair of shoes, finished nails and a bright smile and you are ready for the 19th Annual Together We Can Father- Daughter Dance.

Friday night, over 360 young ladies from grades three to five accompanied their  dads, uncles or granddads to Mansfield High School for a memorable evening of
music, dancing and fun.

Elegant couples walked in with donations for and were ready to party. The evening’s festivities were, once again, orchestrated by DJ extraordinaire, Peter Conti. Photo keepsakes by Rich Powers were available for sale.

The highly anticipated annual event is sponsored by Together We Can, a local organization that has planned family-oriented activities and has directed funds to local schools, programs and scholarships in Mansfield for over 20 years. According to co-founder, Jay Barrows, the proceeds of this year’s Father-Daughter and Mother-Son Dances will benefit several local causes.

As in past years, funds will be donated to the Citizen’s Scholarship Fund and the ’s capital campaign and Reach Out for Youth Program. In addition, some of this year’s funds will be directed to the Green Earth Hornets’ Green House Project.

In conjunction with the Green Schools Initiative under the guidance of founder Robin Organ, Mansfield’s Green Earth Hornets are raising money to build a green house where “students can learn about the environment and actually participate in the growing process.” The initiative seeks to ultimately incorporate this learning into the elementary and middle school curriculum to promote a greener and healthier learning  environment. Members of the Mansfield Green Earth Hornets sold glow necklaces at the dance as part of their fund raising efforts.

The evening has become a beloved Mansfield tradition. Barrows was excited to point out that it often has an impressive 60-70-percent participation rate. Thanks must be given, on behalf of Mansfield families, to the Together We Can team who continue to make this event so special. They are Jay and Debbie Barrows and their two children, Colby and Caitlin, Candy Barbosa, Linda Zogalis, Megan Lewis, Sue
Call, James Barbosa, Adriana Barbosa and Peter Conti.
