The Rhythm Room runs a comprehensive school enrichment program. For more than 15 years, the program has held workshops at schools and camps throughout New England. A grant provided by Sherye Weisz of SMARTS Collaborative is allowing The Rhythm Room enrichment to visit schools throughout the SMARTS district including Attleboro, Easton, Mansfield and Dighton/Rehoboth, which include programs at held on October 12, on November 9 and on May 30.

Morin stated that music workshops facilitate skill development and social interaction, build on listening and teamwork skills, strengthen confidence and cultivate an appreciation for music's cultural, educational and community influence.

The Rhythm Room enrichment offers program options including Recycled Rhythms, and World Beat. "We have the ability to tailor our program to the schedule and budget of each school."

Lessons for All

Morin studied at and the Berklee College of Music and completed private instruction with world-renowned drummer and educator, Dom Famularo. He offers private lessons to children and adults at his studio in North Attleboro in drum set, hand percussion, beginner piano, beginner guitar and horns.

Morin went on to say that music involves proportions, ratios and sequences which underlie mathematical reasoning. "I have students with Autism and Aspergers who are very talented musicians. Music provides these children with confidence and a way to express themselves. I have a student with Cerebral Palsy who is paralyzed on one side of his body and plays the drum set amazingly well with one hand and one foot."

The band prides themselves on writing and performing all original music. Each member of the band plays numerous instruments throughout the show including drum set, percussion, keyboard, harmonica, trombone, didgeridoo, steel pan, and trumpet.

All About the Groove

At the October 29 concert, the band will be performing songs from their new CD titled Groove Infusion.

John Titmus on acoustic guitar and the Dixie Diehards Jazz Band will open the show, which will include a performance by The Rhythm Room Rookies.

The Rhythm Room has performed at numerous events up and down the east coast. Recent performances include opening for the Fair and Festival Conference in Naples, FL and the Gloria Gemma Flames of Hope Waterfire event in Providence. They also have a holiday show planned at Twin River on December 16.

The band was featured on The New England Cable News Channel. They received an Esprit award from ISES International for Best Team Effort for their educational programs and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts just created a Rhythm Room Patch. Their music is available on CD Baby and iTunes.

Are you wondering how to select an instrument for your child or what is a good age to begin lessons? Morin said children can begin private lessons on the drum set as young as six years old. He offers a beginner curriculum that introduces children to the drums, keyboard and basic rhythm.
