Mansfield Field Hockey Beaten by Canton 4-1

Strong finish for Mansfield doesn't bring them over the edge, Hornets lose 4-1.

The Mansfield High field hockey team couldn't start a scoring run against Canton on Thursday, and lost to CHS 4-1. Early on in the first half, Canton scored two goals on Mansfield, who was unable to answer during their first loss of the season.

"They had real good pace," Mansfield head coach Theresa DeGirolamo said. "They got some quick goals and I think we lost some enthusiasm."

Canton scored three goals total in the first half. Mansfield came back offensively in the second, making more attampts at the Canton goal, but was only able to score one goal.

"We had a really strong first half," Canton head coach Fior Griffin said. "In the second half, I think we got a little bit tired. We gave them a few more opportunities than we needed to."

Mansfield's record dropped to 2-1, while Canton's record is now 3-0.

"We played much better in the second half, but Canton's very good," DeGirolamo said. "We played hard, but didn't fundamentally do everything we needed to do today."
