Mansfield Girls Soccer Lose to Feehan, 4-0

Loss ends the season for the Mansfield girls' soccer team.

Mansfield High girls' varsity soccer team lost to Bishop Feehan on Monday, 4-0. The game was close until the end of the last half when Feehan scored three times in under five minutes.

"Four to nothing was not indicative of the outcome of the game,” said Mansfield head coach Kevin Smith.  “Anyone that was here knows it wasn’t a four nothing game.”

Smith had a point, as Mansfield kept Feehan honest during most of the first quarter. It was a good back and forth, with no clear dominant team.

“We went after them,” Smith said. “Twenty-one minutes into the game we were up three to two on shots.”

With 4:42 left in the first half, Feehan’s Annie Galvin scored on Kelly English. After the first half, Feehan was able to keep the ball outside their defensive zone for much of the half.  They kept up the pressure, shooting on Mansfield goalkeeper Kelly English over a dozen times in the second half.

With 6:24 left in the game, Taylor Leebe scored again bringing Feehan into a commanding lead.

Feehan went on to score two more goals in the last few minutes of the game. Smith said that during that time, Mansfield took some chances to try to get the offense moving, and they did keep the ball in the Feehan defensive zone, but a few fast breaks was all it took for Feehan to snatch the game.

“In the second half, you’ve got to take your chances,” Smith said. “What’s the difference between losing two nothing, three nothing or four nothing?”
