Mansfield's Head Coach Michael Redding Enjoys his 200th Win

Mansfield's head coach Michael Redding celebrates his 200th win on Friday.

Mansfield varsity football head coach Michael Redding got his 200th win on Friday when Mansfield took Canton in the second half to win at 34-14.

“It’s been a privilage to be a part of it,” he said. “It just reflects support from the community, great players and a lot of unknown guys who work for three years to play their senior year and they become good football players through that dedication.”

Redding, who starting coaching Mansfield after coaching college football in 1988, now has 200 wins in his career for over 24 seasons.

“First year in 88,’ I thought it was a one-year deal,” he said. “I enjoyed it, and every year it’s gotten better. The community is so supportive. The players commit so much that it’s like a college-level commitment. We ask a lot and they give a lot. Everybody gives so much.”

Redding added that it was more the level and maturity of play that he was proud of in his players than the number of wins.

“I don’t think we always have the most talented teams, but we play hard and play with class,” he said. “It’s been a privilege to coach you know. I’ve been blessed.”
