A brief look at the Sept. 20 Mansfield School Committee meeting.

The Mansfield School Committee heard a presentation from North Attleboro School Committee member Anthony Calcia concerning a new program concerning education into sexual abuse of children and help show how to prevent it. The program is called Darkness to Light.

Superintendent Brenda Hodges discussed the district's goals for the current school year. The committee approved them with one amendment, 5-0.

The Mansfield Education Foundation gave over $10,000 in grants during the meeting to several teachers for new educational programs.

The Qualters Middle School Parent Advisory Council gave a description of an anti-bullying program. Called Ryan's Story, the program will feature a film and lecture about the severity of bullying and how to spot it.

, , , and principals gave their back to school reports at the meeting, highlighting a successful transition back into the school year.

Jordan Jackson Principals and School Council members gave a detailed improvement plan for the benefit of the committee.

The school physician and all school nurses were approved 5-0 by the committee.

The committee discussed repairs to the track and field complex outside the school, and agreed to start putting out a bid. Current estimates for the repairs are about $150,000, but the true cost will not be known until a successful bid is made.

The committee approved a field trip for the boys' basketball team to Elmira, N.Y.
