With the roads still in need of cleaning and many of the sidewalks still covered with snow, Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Hodges has canceled school for Monday, February 11. The cancellation marks the second day school in Mansfield has been canceled due to Friday’s snowstorm and the third weather related cancellation of the school year.
According to the announcement, school and town personnel are continuing to work to clear sidewalks, streets and high snow banks.
"It remains difficult for both bus transportation and walkers to maneuver the streets, at this time. I am advising all administrative staff and office support staff to stay home," Hodges said.
Hodges went on to say that the custodial and maintenance staff will continue working to allow for school to reopen on Tuesday.
Classes at Foxborough Regional Charter School have also been canceled.
The school district joins Attleboro, Easton, Foxborough and Norton in canceling school as area schools begin to turn the three day weekend into a four day weekend.
Meanwhile on the roads, the Mansfield Highway Division has spent the day widening roads and applying salt to main roads. According to an update from town officials, the division is planning to plow nonstop until the roads are clean.
Snow removal for the downtown area is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall and the goal is to remove most of the snow tonight.
