The Sage School Celebrates Largest Graduating Class to Date

The Sage School held the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2011 on June 10.

On Friday, June 10 at 9:00 a.m., The Sage School held the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2011.  With 21 graduates, this marks the largest graduating class in the school’s 20 year history.

The graduates are attending a mix of secondary schools including public, independent, and boarding.  These institutions include Boston College High School, Boston University Academy, Commonwealth School, Groton School, Lexington Christian Academy, Lexington High School, Mansfield High School, Medfield High School, Milton Academy, Newton South High School, Philips Academy Andover, Walpole High School, Winsor School, and Xaverian Brothers High School.

An annual tradition at Sage is to dedicate gifts given on behalf of the graduates to a project that reflects the interest and personality of the graduating class.  While most other schools have graduating classes participate in existing traditions, it is a rare and special moment when a group of students establish a new institutional tradition to be followed by future Sage 8th graders.  The Class of 2011 will not only provide new furniture for The Sage School library, they have also established a "Legacy Project" for all subsequent 8th grade classes.  This project is a collection of tiles, each personalized by a student, to be displayed for everyone to see.  Eighth graders that follow will add to and enhance its scope by customizing his or her own tile.  As the years pass, the number of tiles will grow, as will Sage's ability to demonstrate a sense of "unified individuality."
