Trapped in the TV

Jordan-Jackson fifth graders perform Kelly Warriner's original play.

Jackie (age 12) and her little brother, Jimmy, (age 10) lament about losing cable TV access during summer vacation and missing their favorite shows. They are quicky swept into a magical mystery tour with the Totally Twisted TV Man and bear witness to a very colorful set of educational programs reminiscent of the fifth grade curriculum.

Such is the brain-child of Jordan-Jackson fifth grade teacher, Kelly Warriner, in her original theatrical production of Trapped in the TV. Actors from Warriner's fifth grade class performed 10 shows for 29 classes from the Jordan-Jackson and Robinson Elementary schools over the last week. Thursday night, the Kelly Warriner players gave their final performance to family and friends.  Over 1000 people were treated to a hilarious set of sketches and commercials which made experiences in the fifth grade at JJ come to life. Vignettes included such topics as:

  • Captain Lunchbox contractions;
  • Fight for Independence with a tea bag battle between King George and Sam Adams;
  • Expanding your vocabulary with a Cure for the "What's;"
  • The Bridge Project;
  • American Educational Idol with math songs;
  • The proper spelling of "A LOT;" and
  • The Health Class required viewing of "THE MOVIE."

Mrs. Warriner's production cleverly caps off the fifth grade experience with laughter and pride and proves that school can be fun! She has taught in the Mansfield schools for over ten years. She has a BA in Theatre and Directing from Trinity College, a Masters in Arts in Teaching from Simmons College and a Masters in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley University.
