2 Mansfield Wrestlers Advance to State Championship

Mansfield competed in the Division 1 South Sectional Tournament on Saturday at Braintree High School.

The Hornets two Senior captains punched their tickets to the Division 1 State Tournament being held at Newton South High School on Tuesday, February 19. Joe Herrick (145) and Sam McLoughlin(132) both went 3-1 in the highly competitive field.

Each wrestler suffered their only loss to the eventual champion of their weight class. Both wrestlers finished with a flare in their final match to capture third place in their respective weight classes. McLoughlin was deadlocked 2-2 with less than a minute left in the match when he shot in with a single leg takedown to record a 4-2 victory. Herrick was trailing 1-0 with less than a minute left when he threw a hip toss into a headlock and kept his opponent on his back to secure the 5-1 win.
