Counting Down the Day to Mansfield Football's Start

Hornets will open up practice Aug. 22 for the 2011 season.

They are counting the days now.

The Mansfield High football team will be starting the defense of its Division 2 Super Bowl title when practice begins Monday, Aug. 22, at home. Two days later, the Hornets will pack up the bus for their annual training camp trip to Camp Maheenace on Aug. 24 before returning Aug. 27. Fans will get a chance to see the Hornets in their pads when Boston College High in town Aug. 30 for 6 p.m. scrimmage. Future Hockomock League opponents will be the Hornets’ second scrimmage opponent at Milford, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.

Mansfield will open up the season with two away games, Sept. 9, against Christian Brothers Academy at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY. The following week, the Hornets will be at Needham in a 7 p.m. Mansfield will be closing out the Sept. 23 part of the game, hosting Stoughton in a 7 p.m. nonleague game at 7 p.m.  Stoughton is in the Davenport Division. This year game between the Kelly-Rex (where Mansfield) and the Davenport Division doesn’t count in the standings.

Mansfield will play its first Kelly-Rex Division game Oct. 1 at King Philip. The Hornets will be at Sharon Oct.7 before three straight home games, Attleboro, Oct. 14, Oliver Ames (Homecoming), Oct. 21 and a nonleague game with Barnstable, Oct. 28, 6 p.m.

Mansfield will be playing two Kelly-Rex games to start off Nov. 4 at Franklin and home Nov. 11 at 4:30 p.m. The annual Thanksgiving Day game will be Nov. 24 at Foxborough.
