Foxboro Legion Drops Two to Franklin 10-1, 9-3

Post 93's hitting continues to struggle against Franklin.

Foxborough Post 93 fell to 3-7 Sunday after dropping both games of a doubleheader to Franklin Post 75 on their home field. Franklin won the first game, 10-1, and the second game, 9-3.

Foxboro, plagued by hitting woes all season continued to struggle offensively as they totaled just nine hits through the two games while allowing 24.

“We’re just too anxious at the plate right now” said Foxboro head coach Billy Travers after the game.

In game one, Franklin got started early, tallying three runs in the first as Foxboro starter Tom Savageau walked four batters followed by a two-run single by Brandon Eccher.

Franklin then scored in every inning until the fifth, tallying one in the second, two in the third and one more in the fourth to bring the lead to 7-0 as the two teams entered the top half of the fifth.

In the fifth, Foxboro reliever Chris Johnson allowed three straight singles by Tyler Buck, Mike Householder, and Hunter Taute would help Post 75 push across three more runs pushing the lead up to 10-1.

Franklin starter Brad Rebello pitched a complete game four- hitter, surrendering just one run while striking out three.

On the offensive side for Foxboro nothing really got going as they scored their only run in the seventh on an RBI single from catcher Mitchell Goldenberg after Aiden Farrell led off the inning with a walk.

On the mound for Post 93, Savageau, TJ Notarangelo, Chris Johnson each threw two innings, while Adam Chochrek threw a scoreless seventh.

Game two got started a little different for Post 93 as they got out to an early 2-0 lead when Goldenberg doubled to lead off the second inning and later came around to score on an error. Then, in the fourth, Foxboro was able to push across their second run when Nick Carafa doubled and was driven in by an Andrew Bukuras RBI single.

The bottom of the fourth however told a different story as the first two runners were able to reach against Carafa, which brought up Taute who hit a first pitch three-run home run over the left field fence to give Franklin a 3-2 advantage and Post 75 never looked back.

Franklin scored nine runs in that bottom of the fourth inning, including Jake O’Rourke stealing home plate, a two-out, two run single by Householder and another RBI from Taute.

“Our hitting has been contagious. It certainly makes things easier when you hit and right now, everyone is a tough out up there,” said Franklin head coach Mark D’Angelo when asked about Eccher, Taute and Buck having such good days at the plate.

Foxboro did tally one more run against the Franklin starter Kevin Barry in the seventh as Farrell came around to score on a Vinny Monahan fielder’s choice.

Barry pitched a complete game for Franklin surrendering three runs; only one earned, five hits, and struck out six.

On the mound for Foxboro, Carafa surrendered all nine runs on nine hits while striking out four in his four innings of work, and Bobby Joyce pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Post 93.

“We’ve got a tough schedule this week, but I know these guys won’t quit, its just not in their blood,” said Travers.

Foxboro has four games this week starting with Needham tomorrow night in Needham.

With the two victories, today Franklin moves to 5-4 on the season and will continue their schedule this week as well.
