Hornets Earn Seven New England Qualifiers at All-State Meet

In the boys meet, the Hornets finished in 16th place with 13 points while the girls finished in 14th place with 16 points.

Earning seven qualifiers for the New England Championship Meet, the Mansfield Hornets competed at the MIAA All-State Meet over the weekend at Westfield State University.

In the boys meet, the Hornets finished in 16th place with 13 points while the girls finished in 14th place with 16 points.

The Hornets' best performances came from the girls 4x400 that took first place in the event. The team of Mikaila Amerantes (56.9), Julia Jones (58.6), Maddie Oldow (59.6), and Ashley Bjorkman (62.1) ran a time of 3:57.35, edging out second place finisher Lexington.

In the 400, Amerantes ran a personal best of 57.70 and placed sixth in a strong field. 

Kelsey Ferreria also took sixth place in the 100 hurdles, running 15.32.

On the boys' side, Matt Baldasare took fifth in the 400 with a time of 49.70.

Dan Romano was the lone distance New England qualifier for the Hornets, running 9:33.39 in the two-mile and finishing in fifth place.

Two relay teams also made to this Saturday's meet with the boys' 4x400 (3:23.47) and 4x800 (8:09.60) both finishing in sixth place in their events.

The Mansfield Hornets track team's season will go on for one more week when they send four individuals and three relay teams to the New England Championship Meet on Willowbrook Park in New Britain, CT on June 8.
