Mansfield And Sharon Gymnasts Shine At Hockomock League Meet

Hornets and Eagles garner top honors at league meet on Feb 5.

The and Sharon High School girls’ gymnastics teams put forth several outstanding performances during the Hockomock League Championship Meet on Saturday night at in Mansfield.

Sharon sophomore Samantha Kaplan captured the all-around competion with a total score of 37.65. Mansfield freshman Alexa Anastos finished in second place in the all-around with a score of 37.35, while Hornet junior Ally Neenan was third at 36.85.

Neenan won the all-around balance beam competition with a score of 9.4, while Anastos was third at 9.1. Anastos finished tied for first in the all-around floor exercise with a mark of 9.6 with Neenan finished in a tie for fourth at 9.3.

Neenan placed second in the all-around bars with a score of 9.3, while Anastos tied for third at 9.2. Anastos placed third in the all-around vault at 9.45.

Mansfield also had three first-place performances in the individual competitions. Senior captain Amy Sterling won the floor exercise with a score of 9.45. Freshman Christine McCabe won the balance beam with a mark of 9.0, while classmate Kate Moore finished tied for first in bars with a mark of 8.9.

Moore was also second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.0, while sophomore Madison Krysko placed second in the vault at 9.2.

“Our girls were amazing,” said Mansfield assistant coach Lisa Anastos. “All 11 of our kids that competed were able to place. That speaks to our depth. We are a team with incredible depth. We have had a lot of injuries and obstacles this year, but our incredible depth has taken us far. We have had good depth in the past, but not to this extent.”

Anastos also gives a great deal of the credit for the team’s success this year to its trio of senior captains, Brogan Buckley, Erin Duggan and Sterling.

“Those girls provide great leadership and are excellent role models for the rest of the kids on the team,” said Anastos. “That is important if you are going to have a good year.”

Sharon had several outstanding performances, led by the first-place finish in the all-around competition by Kaplan.

“Our team did an awesome job on Saturday,” said first-year Eagle head coach Jessica Hiltz. “I could not have hoped for the meet to go any better than it did. Everyone who competed in the meet placed on at least one event, which was great. All the girls hit their routines and did an awesome job. I was very excited for all of them.”

Participating in the all-around competition, Samantha Magnarella of King Philip scored 8.6 in the floor exercise and 8.2 in the vault. Katie Paul of the Warriors scored 8.25 in the all-around floor exercise and 8.15 in the all-around vault. In the individual competition, senior Courtney Pinto recorded a mark of 8.2 in the floor exercise

Attleboro’s Meri Moreau performed well in the all-around competition. She finished fifth in the vault with a score of 9.3 and tied for fifth in the bars at 8.7. Moreau also placed sixth in the all-around floor exercise with a mark of 9.0.
