Mansfield Baseball Team Ready for Catholic Memorial

Hornets are hoping to knock off the Knights Saturday.

The Mansfield High baseball team will be trying to knock off fifth-seeded Catholic Memorial, Saturday at 4 p.m. in West Roxbury. Mansfield is the 12th seed with a 12-8 record, while the Knights are seeded fifth at 14-6.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to play the winner of the Boston College High-Needham game.

Steve Nagle was the top hitter for the Hornets with a .439 average, while Bobby Brunelle batted .362 with 13 RBI, while Nick Carafa had 14 RBI and batted .339. Tom Brady hit .333 with 10 RBI. Anthony DeSimone also cracked the .300 barrier with a .315 average.

The Hornets have been solid on the mound with a team unearned run average of .243 with 104 strikeouts and allowing 51 walks. Carafa went 4-3 with 44 strikeouts and allowing 27 walks with a 2.93 ERA, while Brady with 3-0 with a 1.54 earned run average.  Craig Mallett is 4-1 with a save and a 1.79 ERA.  Adam Blake had a save with a 1.74 ERA in four games. Bobby Joyce was 1-4, but had a strong ERA at 3.23 with 23 strikeouts.
