Mansfield Beats Foxborough on the Ice 3-0

Mansfield defeats the Warriors 3-0.

 

The Mansfield boys ice hockey team beat Foxborough on Saturday 3-0. While the score was a bit lopsided in Mansfield’s favor, it did not reflect the entirety of the game.

Offensively, Mansfield dominated the ice. They had a total of 33 shots on goal, out shooting Foxborough by 26. They also kept the puck primarily on the Warrior’s side of play, not giving Foxborough many chances to shoot.

"I got a chance to play everybody," Mansfield head coach Rick Anastos said. "That was what I had hoped to accomplish. Everybody goes to practice and they work hard. This was their oppertunity to play and they played."

Mansfield did however give Foxborough two powerplays in the first and second periods, but did not allow any scoring.

"We just got to keep working on our system," Anastos said. "We need to get our discipline. It was a good game, but it's tough."

Foxborough’s goalie Melissa Almeida did however make more than one impressive save during the game. She had a total of 31 saves.

"I thought Foxboroug played a great game," Anastos said. "I thought [Almeida] played really well. She had thirtysomething shots. She did a good job."

Defensively, Foxborough was able to get their game together and keep Mansfield at bay for a decent amount of time. Mansfield’s first goal, scored by Erick Foley and assisted by Mike Blackman and Will Kelleher at 3:16, was scored primarily because Almeida was knocked of her feet.

Mansfield scored again in the second period at 9:32 when Sam Daganhardt got one by assisted by Cam Neary and Evan Kershaw. Captain Jason Collins scored an unassisted goal from half ice when Foxborough pulled their goalie in an attempt to score a goal in the last minute of the game.

Mansfield’s record is now 7-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the division. They play the Stoughton Black Knights in Brockton on Tuesday. Foxborough 3-3-1 overall and will play Attleboro on Monday.
