Mansfield Beats St. John's 28-14 For MIAA D2 Football State Title

Despite five turnovers in the first half, the Mansfield Hornets became a different team in the second half, scoring 21 unanswered points en route to a 28-14 win over St. John’s of Shrewsbury.

Down 14-7 in the third, an interception by Connor Finerty got the Hornets offense to the 11-yard line.

One play later, a handoff to Alex Ruddy cut the lead to one and a 5-yard run by Michael Hershman later in the quarter gave Mansfield a 21-14 lead after a two-point conversion by Miguel Perez.

Perez led the Hornets with 120 yards rushing and the three-yard touchdown run that locked up the Mansfield victory with 2:38 left in the game.

Stayed tuned for a full story later tonight from Mansfield Patch.

Where are all the naysayers? Show your faces. I bet you'll be too stubborn to admit you were wrong or lose graciously. No chance Mansfield wins, call the game now. St. John's is too good.

This St. John's alum congratulates Mansfield for the win. Let's celebrate by building a $100 million DPW garage with marble floors.

HJ and myself and Tina had been previously discussing another article on patch, his comment was a harmless reference, no need for name calling.

yes. sometimes we agree, sometimes disagree, but we don't really need to succumb to this. Is this how you reflect where you come from? Certainly no reason to trash a victory regarding the HS with unrelateds. Congrats MHA,i'm not a follower of HS sports too much, but well done.
