Despite five turnovers in the first half, the Mansfield Hornets became a different team in the second half, scoring 21 unanswered points en route to a 28-14 win over St. John’s of Shrewsbury.
Down 14-7 in the third, an interception by Connor Finerty got the Hornets offense to the 11-yard line.
One play later, a handoff to Alex Ruddy cut the lead to one and a 5-yard run by Michael Hershman later in the quarter gave Mansfield a 21-14 lead after a two-point conversion by Miguel Perez.
Perez led the Hornets with 120 yards rushing and the three-yard touchdown run that locked up the Mansfield victory with 2:38 left in the game.
