Mansfield Boys' Cross-Country Earns All-State Spot

Dan Caughey finished seventh for Mansfield boys' cross-country in the Eastern Massachusetts meet.

 

It’s become almost as certain as death and taxes. If it’s third Saturday in November, the Mansfield High boys’ cross-country team will be in the running for a state title.

After finishing second in Saturday’s Eastern Massachusetts Division 1 meet Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, the Hornets earned a return trip to the All-State meet. That race will also be held at Franklin Park Saturday.

Lincoln-Sudbury ended as an amazing streak of three straight Eastern Mass titles by the Hornets.

The Warriors scored 64-points as Matt Barnes was fifth in 16:18, followed by teammate Eli Hoenig, who was sixth in 16:48. L-S’s Connor Daly also cracked into the top 10 in eighth place in 16:51. The Warriors were able to get five runners into the top 25.

Mansfield, who scored 86 points, was led by junior Dan Caughey was seventh in 16:40, while Brendan McCarthy was ninth in 17:01. The Hornets’ Mitchell Negus was able to get into the top 15 in 12th place in 17:04. Kham Haleudeth was the fourth runner for the Hornets in 17:24, while Zach Frazier was the fifth man in  35th in 17:36.
