Sometimes a loss can be considered a net win. Even though the score may not work out in a team’s favor, the lessons learned and experience gained trump the blemish on your record. Such was the case for Tuesday’s girls' varsity tennis match, as the Hornets fell to the Medfield Warriors, 5-0, at home.
“We chose to play them out of league because of how good they are,” said Mansfield head coach Amy Cannon. “Medfield is an awesome team and I knew facing them would make us better down the line in the Hockomock League.”
Only two players, Emma Yeransian and Emily Belastock, were able to push their matches to three sets. Medfield ultimately won both.

“All day, but in those matches especially, stamina played a huge part. They beat us with their patience and consistency. Those are two things we can work on,” said Cannon. “I couldn’t be prouder. Our girls played hard and learned a lot.”
The Hornets continue their season in Attleboro today. Medfield will next host Westfield on Thursday.
