Mansfield Girls' Track Ready for All-States

Hornets win third straight Division 2 title.

The Mansfield High girls’ track team will be looking to add more hardware to the trophy at the All-State Meet Saturday Bridgewater State University. The meet starts at 3 p.m.

Last week, the Hornets found the BSU track to their liking, winning their third straight Division 2 state title.

Boston College-bound Kristen McDonagh continued her outstanding senior season, winning the high jump, the 100-meter hurdles and finished third in the triple jump.

McDonagh is seeded second in the high jump in the state meet at 5 feet, 6 inches,  behind Andover’s Moira Cronin, who cleared 5 feet, 10 inches. McDonagh is fifth in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.44.

After seeing a new Division 2 record last Saturday in 1:01.58 in winning the 400 meter hurdles, junior Jen Esposito is seeded first going into Saturday’s meet.

Mansfield junior Kayla Comer, who won the 100 meters last Saturday, is seeded 21st in 12.88 seconds.

After finishing second in the mile in the class meet, senior Lauren Columbare is seeded ninth at 5:13.67, while freshman Sami Carey was second in the class meet and is seeded 26th in 11:48.13.

Going into the All-State meet, the Hornets’ 4 x 100 relay team is seeded fifth at 50.04 with Emily Broyles, Comer, Julie Jones and Paige Grimes. The team was first at the class meet.

Mansfield should all do well in the 4 x 400 relay at Brittany Greene, Esposito, Broyles and Jones won the class meet title. They are seeded third at 3:59.74, behind Andover, 3:57.50 and Newton North, 3:57.91.

Joining McDonagh in the field events will be Andrea Turtelaub, who finished third in the class meet at 117 feet in the javelin..

At Class meet, Dana Foley was eighth in the 100 hurdles for one point, while the 4 x 800 relay team of Carey, Megan Cole, Columbare and McGee had a personal best time.
