Mansfield Girls Track Take 2nd at East D2 Meet, Boys Place Third

The boys scored 55 points while the girls earned 50 points.

Despite a two day delay due to bad weather, the Hornets put together another solid effort at the MIAA Eastern Division East Championship meet, taking third in the boys meet and second in the girls meet.

North Attleboro continued their postseason dominance, winning the boys title with 72 points while meet host Notre Dame Academy of Hingham won the girls meet with 70 points.

On the girls' side, Mikalia Amerantes ran a personal best of 57.98 in the 400 and captured her first divisional title in the event. The sophomore also placed sixth in the long jump (16-04).

Sabrina Pray also placed in the event, jumping 15-11.5 for seventh place.

Lindsay Goulet placed fifth in the 800 (2:22.31), just missing out on a top four finish needed to qualify for the all-state meet.

After running the fastest time in the qualifying round, Kelsey Ferreira took fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.79) and Sabrina Pray (16.36) finished in eight place.

400 hurdles runner Julia Jones edged out Wellesley's Tessa Broholm for third place in the event, running 66.70 to Broholm's 66.78.

Not even having to run the final lap and a half without a shoe could stop Dan Romano from taking the two-mile (9:42.21) with a three second win over Nate Stephansky of Whitnam-Hanson. Conor Monks (9:52.26) also qualified for the All-State meet with a fourth place finish.

Matt Bukuras wrapped up his season with a sixth place finish in the javelin and a personal best of 161-7.

The Hornet boys were also able to get two relay teams to the all-state meet with a second place finish in the 4x100 (43.69) and a fourth place performance in the 4x400 (3:29.54.)

The girls will have one relay next week, winning the 4x400 (4:03.37) by over five seconds. 

The athletes that finished in the top four of their event will compete at the MIAA All-State Meet on June 1 at Westfield High School.
