Mansfield High Football Loses to Reading in Division 2 Super Bowl

The Mansfield High football team lost to Reading, 27-7, in the Division 2 Super Bowl at Bentley University in Waltham Saturday.

 

This time, there was no dramatic comeback as the Reading High football team got revenge for their loss to Mansfield in the 2010 Division 2 Super Bowl with a 27-7 win in the Division 2 Super Bowl at Bentley University in Waltham Saturday afternoon.

Mansfield scored the first time they touched the ball on a long pass from junior quarterback Kyle Wisnieski to sophomore wide-receiver Brendan Hill for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter at the 8:16 mark.

Unfortunately, the Hornets couldn't mount much offense the rest of the day. Instead, it was Rockets, who were able to score against the Mansfield defense, putting 27 straight points on the scoreboard.

Alex Valante ran for two scores, including a 99-yard touchdown after a goal line stand by the Rockets. Quarterback Drew Belcher added another rushing touchdown on a quarterback keeper, while Jared Baros had an interception return for a score.

In the 2010 game, the Hornets fell behind, 26-7, and rallied for a 29-26 win to capture the title. Unfortunately for the Hornets, history didn't repeat itself.

The Hornets ended the season with a 9-4 record after winning the Kelley-Rex Division in the Hockomock League.
