Mansfield's Wiseman Makes College Debut at Vanderbilt University

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman made his debut in his first college game for Vanderbilt University, pinch-hitting and playing centerfield.

 

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman made his collegiate debut for the Vanderbilt University baseball team in their season opening 10-4 win over Long Beach State, Friday afternoon in Nashvlle.

Wiseman went 0-1 in a pinch-hitting and had one putout in centerfielder. The freshman out of Buckingham, Browne & Nichols is playing in the same outfielder as Mike Yastrzemski, the grandson of Boston Red Sox hall of famer Carl Yastrzemski.

Vanderbilt is ranked No. 2 in the country and is predicted to win the Southeastern Conference East title. In the Sporting News Baseball Preview, the Commodores are ranked as the eighth-best team in the country.

Wiseman was taken in the Major League Baseball Draft by Chicago Cubs in 25th round and spent the summer playing for the Brockton Rox.

Playing as the only high school player on the team in the New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League, Wiseman played in 48 games with a .224 average, three homers, 16 RBI and 13 steals. In the field, he didn't make an error the entire summer.
