Mansfield Softball Beats Foxborough

Mansfield was able to get by with a 3-0 win over the Warriors.

Its been a good week for Mansfield’s Trish Hansen. Coming off two big wins against Oliver Ames and Attleboro, the junior pitcher continued to dominate on the mound with 8 strikeouts in a complete game against Foxborough.

“She did great. She had total command up there. 5 out of our 7 innings we went 1-2-3,” said Hornets coach Jinneane Sperrazza.

In a game where hits were rare for Foxborough, Mansfield was able to get by with a 3-0 win over the Warriors.

In addition to her performance on the mound, Hansen has proven to also be a threat at the plate. Kick starting the Hornet’s offense in the top of the 1st, Hansen hit the game’s opening single and then score off a Erin Glavin single to get an early 1-0 lead for Mansfield.

In the top of the 2nd, senior captain Krista Luchette, nailed a 3-2 pitch for a RBI triple. Michaela Bowes would be credited with the run.

Despite having chances, Foxborough could not get any runners across home plate. Their best chance came in the bottom of the 3rd. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the Warriors could not produce anything and left the inning with both players on base. The Warriors once again got 2 runners on in the bottom of the 4th, but once again left both runners on base.

On defense, the Warriors looked more confident fielding the ball. With solid defense, Foxborough did a good job staying in the game and keeping the score close.

“They played together. They fielded and played every play they needed to play kept them in the game the whole time," said Warriors coach Lauren Cucinotta.

Mansfield final run would come in the top of the 5th. Taking advantage of a Warrior error,  Krista Luchette made it from second base to home plate to put the Warriors up 3-0. Luchette would end the day going 2-3 with a run and a RBI.

Despite the lack of base hits, the Warriors looked more comfortable in the batters box. Showing confidence that had previously not been there before, the Warriors showed they could cause trouble for pitchers in the near future.

“They were getting the contact down. It was more just putting it together and putting people on base. They looked a lot more confident up there so can’t be upset about that,” said Cucinotta.

Foxborough will look to extend that confidence when they face their other main rival North Attleboro on Wednesday. It is the beginning of a three day stretch that will see them travel to Walpole and to Mansfield for a rematch.

Mansfield will also play a stretch of games this week. They will travel to Canton tomorrow before hosting Sharon at home on Wednesday and Foxborough on Friday.
