Patch Question of the Week? The Best Mansfield Super Bowl Team Ever

In Mike Redding's long, successful tenure as the Mansfield High head football coach, the Hornets have been one of the top programs in the state.

Monday, the Hornets start preseason practice for the 2012 season, attempting to add another Super Bowl title.

As the 2012 team starts the hard work for a new year, we're asking what was the best Super Bowl winning team. Let's us know what you think is the best of the super bunch in the comment section.

1992-The first Super Bowl winning team went 11-0 beating Winthrop for the title, winning 20-12 at Winthrop. Mansfield was led by the running back combo of Omari Walker and Tony Forte and lineman Jamie Sullivan. In the first half of games that year, Mansfield outscored opponents, 267-42, as they rolled over foes.

1994-Led by quarterback Fred Vallett, the Hornets defeated Bishop Feehan to win the title after only losing to Attleboro in a nonleague game during the regular season. Kerry Taylor, Rob Smith and Warren Bacon were other standouts.

1996-After beating Swampscott, 26-14, at Boston University for the title, the Hornets earned the title as the No. 1 team in the state. Quarterback Matt McLaughlin threw for an amazing 24 touchdowns, 11 of which were caught by Ryan Murphy. Joe Todd was a two-way standout for the squad as running back and defensive end.

2003-This team didn't play a close game all season long and overwhelmed Swampscott, 28-6, in the Super Bowl at Brockton High. John Sperrazza was dominating at quarterback for the 13-0 team. Tom Farrell, Jeff Creeden, Brian Kiley and Chris Joseph were outstanding players for the team.

2004-Mansfield's only back-to-back Super Bowl winning team went 13-0, beating Walpole for the title at Curry College. Tyler D'Ambra replaced Sperrazza at quarterback and Brett McDermott emerged as a top players with three touchdowns against Foxborough on Thanksgiving Day.

2010-During the regular season, the Hornets lost to Aquinas Institute of Rochester and an emotional defeat to North Attleboro on their way to the title. They saved the best for last. Down 26-7 to Reading at halftime of their Super Bowl game at Gillette Stadium, the Hornets rallied for an amazing 29-26 win in the second half, in a game that would be a candidate for best-ever. George Busharis, Jamel Marshall and Kyle Maguire, were among the standouts on the team.
