This really gets me!!! In the coffee room at work, there is a bag of popcorn treats—snack food with photos of a Boy Scout and Cub Scout along with other information about scouting on the back. So, I assume that this is sold as a fundraising item by the scouts. It's made by Trail Ends and called "Chocolatey Triple Delight," weighing 1.25 pounds.
There is a picture on this "treat" on the front of the bag, but it was difficult for me to discern what was inside. I had to read the ingredients. It turns out to be popcorn with drizzled white frosting and dark areas, which I guess is the chocolate. Now, most of us know that popcorn by itself is a relatively healthy snack, right? But is it with this frosting and chocolate? I DON'T THINK SOOOO!
So, let's look at the ingredient list. The first item is—SUGAR !!!
Followed by Corn syrup, then popcorn in the No. 3 spot, followed by a bunch of other "stuff." Ooh, titanium dioxide coloring—likely for the white frosting. That's used in paint products too! Then jump up to the percent per serving— 1/2 cup contains 85 mg of sodium, calories from fat—30, saturated fat—2.5 grams!!!
I barely know what to write. This stuff is disgusting! What about obesity in this country? This product certainly sabotages that existing condition!
Who the heck sold this item to the scouts for fundraising, and what scout leader bought it??? They both should be ashamed.
I think scout troops should stick with car washes and such, and not give any money from their fundraising efforts back to companies selling this junk food! Supposedly, 70 percent of sales go back to local scouts.
