Mansfield and Surrounding Towns Gear Up for Earth Day Event

Reduce, reuse and recycle by visiting Comcast Center today

Get out those old but usable kid's clothes, kitchen gadgets and furniture, and bring them along to the Comcast Center at 855 South Main St., Mansfield tomorrow for the fifth annual Earth Day Event.

The huge recycling celebration is being organized and sponsored by the Southeast Regional Recycling Partnership and residents of any of the member communities -- Foxboro, Mansfield, North Attleboro, Norton, Plainville and Wrentham -- are welcome to participate.

Organizations collecting useable stuff include Big Brother Big Sister, Bikes Not Bombs, Boomerangs, Building Materials Resource Center, Cradles to Crayons, Got Books, Shred-iT and area animal shelters.

Residents are encouraged to bring bikes of all sizes with no heavy rust, building materials in good condition (cabinets, doors, faucets, hardware, etc.), houseware and small appliances that work, all kinds of books and CDs or DVDs, baby and children's items in good condition, bed linens and furniture.

Adult clothing and footwear in good condition is also needed, including women's business attire.

The organizations cannot accept broken or unusable items, and no large appliances, sleeper sofas, or mattresses will be taken.

Area animal shelters are collecting old bedding, blankets, crates, leashes, bowls, toys and stuffed animals.

Paper shredding of old documents and files is free, with a limit of two boxes per person, and all the paper will be recycled.

The event begins at 9 a.m., rain or shine, and winds up at 1 p.m., although the various organizations have a limited amount of space and leave when their trucks are full, so come early!
