Mansfield Offering Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) Training in October

Mansfield Emergency Management Agency offering C.E.R.T. training this month.

The Town of will be hosting a Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) training program in partnership with the Norton Emergency Management Agency. Classes begin on Oct. 13, and are free and open to anyone who wishes to atend.

Training for the program will be held mostly at the , witha few onsite sessions at the Mansfield and Norton Emergency Management Facilities.The deadline for registration is the first day of training, Oct. 13.

The nine-week training program covers use of fire extinguishes, disaster medical operations, American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED, first aid certification, C.E.R.T. team organization, disaster psychology, light search and rescue and terrorism awareness.

The program was originally started in 2001 by president George Bush after the Sept. 11 attacks to help provide training to the country to help regular citizens be prepared to act when first responders are overwhelmed by a disaster.

The Mansfield Emergency Management Agency is made up of 64 volunteers who are ready to serve Mansfield in time of a disaster as well as in civic and community functions.
