Mansfield High Football to Celebrate 20th Anniversity of 1992 Super Bowl Winners

Mansfield High head football coach Mike Redding is looking for players from the 1992 Super Bowl Championship team for a 20th reunion Sept. 8 in the game against Westfield.

The 1992 Mansfield High Super Bowl champions, one of the greatest teams in the school's history, will be honored during and after this year's Sept. 8 game against Westfield High for their 20th reunion. Head coach Mike Redding is looking for players from that time to contact him at Michael.Redding@mansfieldschools.com to let him know if they will be at the event. Led by Omari Walker, the 1992 team was Mansfield's first Super Bowl winning team. Redding had a very talented squad, regarded by some to be the best-ever at MHS, that went 11-0, beating Winthrop, 20-12, in the Super Bowl. That was the close game the Hornets played that year as they outscored their opponents, 403-129. Stoughton was the only Hockomock League team, the Hornets did …

The left-handed hitting center fielder is expected to be selected within the first 100 picks of the 2012 MLB Draft on June 4, and according to many scouts, could go as high as the first round. ESPNHS has him ranked 42nd among high school seniors, while MLB Draft Guide has him ranked 47th overall. Hornet Football Celebrates the Season and Honors its Seniors

Mansfield brings together gridiron athletes who earned back-to-back Hockomock Championships and the Division II Super Bowl Championship.

Coach Mike Redding reviewed the success of the team both on and off the field. He celebrated two consecutive Hockomock League titles and last year's Super Bowl Championship. Redding dubbed this year's athletes as the "Cardiac Kids" because they kept us on the edge of our seats in almost every game. Before the coaching staff distributed award plaques and booklets, Redding emphasized several post-season awards. Zach Schafer and Nick Chiocco will participate in the Shriners' game at Gillette Stadium in June. Schafer was also named to the Mass State Coaches All-State Super 25 Team. Mansfield Shuts Out Foxborough Baseball

Jimmy Flaherty went 2-3 against the Hornets while Nick Sestito went 1-3 with a double.

The score alone does not imply a close game but take away one inning of action and the showdown between Foxborough and Mansfield becomes a closer game. Yet even if you remove the Hornets’ big fifth inning during their 5-0 win over Foxborough Monday, the Warriors still would have needed to find a way to pull ahead instead of keeping things close. “We’re just staying even with teams in the first three innings instead of getting guys on and putting pressure on them,” Foxborough head coach Billy Sittig said. Unable to find anything at the plate, Warriors' pitcher Brandon Fowler did everything he could to keep Mansfield off the scoreboard. With bases loaded and two outs in the top of the second inning, a strikeout by Fowler ended the early jam …
