How to Help Victims of the Oklahoma Tornado

Donating money to organizations that help victims is quick and easy.

  Americans across the country are reacting with shock to the devastation caused by a 2-mile wide Tornado in Oklahoma. Dozens have died, and President Obama has declared the path of the tornado a major disaster area. If you would like to help, you can do so from your computer or mobile device right now. Patch will be posting stories of locals who are working to help victims from afar. If you know of someone local was affected by the tornado or who is working to help the victims, please contact your local editor.

Foxborough Man Surprises Son with Patriots Tickets He Won Giving Blood

Foxborough resident Paul Currie was one of five blood donors to win Patriots playoff tickets after participating in Dunkin' Donuts sixth annual "Give a Pint, Get a Pound" campaign last week at Patriot Place.

Foxborough resident Paul Currie realized the importance of giving blood several years ago when his daughter had a major surgery. “I realized giving blood is something we all need to do,” Currie said. "[It is] easy and the benefits for others are priceless.” Currie, 52, was off from work last week when he heard about an American Red Cross blood drive happening at Patriot Place. “I decided I would do my part,” Currie said of participating in last Thursday’s Dunkin’ Donuts sixth annual “Give a Pint, Give a Pound” campaign. As part of the event at Patriot Place, five lucky donors would win two tickets apiece to Sunday’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium. TELL US: Are You Prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse?

The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts has launched a website to help residents prepare for an emergence of zombies.

Certainly in the spirit of Halloween, but more appropriate for the long-debated Mayan Apocalypse, the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts this week launched a new website that aims to prepare everyone for dealing with the potential rise of zombies, according to a report in the Metro this week.   The website, SavingZombies.com, provides readers with a count-down to the alleged "apocalypse" that some have suggested on the internet is predicted for Dec. 21 by the ancient Mayans (several resources have debunked the myth on the Internet, such as NASA.com; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meanwhile, has released tongue-in-cheek "zombie warnings," but has also denied the existence of Zombies, according to The Huffington …

Mansfield Resident Recognized by the American Red Cross

American Red Cross Recognizes UMASS Dartmouth as College Sponsor of the Year

Lenny Walker of Mansfield, the President of the UMASS Dartmouth American Red Cross Club, was recognized by The American Red Cross Blood Services – Massachusetts Region at  its Annual Meeting on Sept. 22, in Dedham.  A select group of individuals, organizations, and businesses in the community who have made significant contributions to the eegion’s volunteer blood donor program were recognized and thanked for their endeavors.  UMASS Dartmouth recently established an active American Red Cross club on campus which helps recruit blood donors and volunteers for blood drives.  The club’s members help spread the word around campus about the constant need for blood and about other Red Cross services.  They increased the number of blood drives they…
