Missed extra points make the difference in the Hornets' 21-19 victory
Mansfield dominated the first half Friday night in a home game against Attleboro, taking a 21-7 lead into the locker room. But the second half of both teams' Kelley-Rex Division season opener was a different story, as Attleboro mounted a strong comeback, but fell short in a 21-19 win for the Hornets. "Getting out to the early lead was big, and then it was kind of just hanging on for dear life in the second half," Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said. The difference in the score was due to two missed extra points by Attleboro. The first was a kick early in the third quarter and the second came on a two-point attempt midway through the fourth quarter in which Attleboro was forced to start on the 18-yard line due to an unsportsmanlike …

Mansfield girls' basketball team defeats Attleboro for 12th win.
The Mansfield High girls basketball team beat Attleboro, 59-19, Friday night at home, dominating in rebounds, tips, steals and turnovers. “We played our best game of the year,” Mansfield head coach Mike Redding said. “I thought Brockton was our best game, so we put two really good efforts in back to back.” The game started slow, with Attleboro scoring only twice; once on a layup and once on a foul shot. Mansfield ended the period with 16 points, a full two-points every minute. Mansfield kept up their momentum and barely ever allowed Attleboro a rebound and stole and tipped passes to gain even more shot opportunities. “It seemed like we had gotten a little too passive,” Redding said. “We talked about being more aggressive in the zone, …

Mansfield boys hockey defeats Attleboro on the ice 6-3
The Mansfield boys ice hockey team beat Attleboro, 6-3, Wednesday in a grudge match at the Foxboro Sports Center. Mansfield outshot Attleboro, 34-16, but shots on goal do not necessarily denote how many shots were taken. Attleboro tried many more times, but Mansfield’s defense stepped up and block most of the shots before they got to goalie Christian DeBeauport. “That’s their job,” Mansfield head coach Rick Anastos said. “Everybody contributed.” Mansfield and Attleboro went at it for the first period, with neither teams able to score. Each team had a power play for that period, but could not capitalize on it. “I was very pleased with our effort,” Attleboro head coach Mike Cripps said. “That was one of our more consistent games I thought …

Hornets pull out a win 28-7 after being down by seven in the first half.
The Mansfield Hornets pulled out a win on the gridiron on Saturday 28-7 against Attleboro. The first half was a slugfest, with niether team getting much of an advantage either way, until Attleboro recovered a fumble at the 32 yard line and ran it back for a touchdown. "The first half, felt like we outplayed them but it was tied," Mansfield head coach said. Mansfield's Greg Donahue ran in a touchdown late the first half, and Mansfield started to pick up momentum. In the second half, Mansfield came out swinging, picking up two more touchdowns. Mansfield ran in two more touchdowns, one in the third quarter and Craig Mallet would seal the game, when with only about 20 seconds left in the game, he intercepted the ball in Mansfield's endzone…

Maddie Jolin made an impressive debut for the Lady Shamrocks in a opening game win over Attleboro.
Experience was supposed to be the key to success for the Bishop Feehan Lady Shamrocks in 2011, but in the opener it was a freshman that got the season off to flying start. Maddie Jolin, making her first career varsity appearance, scored four goals in the first half and Feehan cruised to a 7-0 victory against their crosstown rivals, the Attleboro High Lady Bombardiers at McGrath Stadium. Feehan (1-0) returned their top three scorers from last season, Annie Galvin, Delaney Lancor, and Taylor Levy who combined for over 60 goals in 2010 but it was Jolin that would take home the game ball. After Galvin made it 1-0, Jolin scored a hat trick in seven minutes to put the Lady Shamrocks comfortably on top. Jolin added a fourth six minutes later …
