Super Bowl Cheerleading Controversy: Isolated Incident or Larger Issue?

A Ravens cheerleader has been making headlines for the reasons she says she was banned from cheering on Super Bowl Sunday.

The story of a Baltimore Ravens cheerleader who said she was disciplined for weight gain—and believes this is a reason she was left behind from the Super Bowl—has been making headlines across the country. Cheerleader Courtney Lenz said she thinks her team didn't take her to the Super Bowl was because she gained 1.6 pounds. Admittedly, her story has changed through the week: Yahoo Sports noted she first said the team was upset because she had chosen to retire at the end of the season. She later told Good Morning America she thought the decision was because of her weigh-in. The alleged snub led to supporters starting an online petition to reinstate her, The Huffington Post reported. The team has said they picked cheerleaders for the Super …

Bill Belichick Confirms He’ll Coach Patriots in 2013

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told media Monday he expects to return to the team in 2013.

One day after a crushing defeat in the AFC Championship Game, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked - after 37 years of NFL coaching experience – if he is energized to coach another season. “Yeah, I’ll be here,” Belichick said. “You’ll have to deal with me again next year. I know that’s disappointing for a lot of you. Until I’m told otherwise, I plan on being here.” Belichick’s confirmation in Monday’s end-of-season press conference at Gillette Stadium validates comments made by Patriots team president Jonathan Kraft last month on 98.5 The Sports Hub. Evening show host Adam Jones asked Kraft about the future of Bill Belichick amid speculation that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could be in line to replace the …

New England Patriots Fall Short of Super Bowl in Disappointing Loss to Ravens

The New England Patriots' season ended one game short of a Super Bowl appearance Sunday following a 28-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium.

It wasn’t supposed to end this way. The New England Patriots – and their nation of fans – were expecting a return trip to the Super Bowl but a porous second half in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium resulted in a 28-13 season-ending loss to the Baltimore Ravens. “Obviously a disappointing end to an overall pretty positive season,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “We just didn’t do enough things well enough to win. Give the Ravens credit; they’re a good football team. They just out-played us and out-coached us. They just made more plays than we did. That’s pretty much the story.” New England led 13-7 at halftime but was outscored – and outperformed – by the Ravens, 21-0 in the final 30 minutes behind three …

5 Things to Know About Sunday's Patriots-Ravens AFC Championship Game

The New England Patriots host the Baltimore Ravens Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Foxborough for the AFC Championship Game. Winner advances to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

On Sunday, the New England Patriots will play in their ninth AFC Championship Game and second straight conference title game against the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium. Kick-off is 6:30 p.m. It will be the third time in team history the Patriots will play in consecutive AFC Championship games. The Pats won back-to-back conference titles in 2003 and 2004 and played in both the 2006 and 2007 Conference Championship games, winning the 2007 game. The Patriots and Ravens have squared off seven times in the regular season and two times in the postseason since the Baltimore franchise was founded following the Cleveland Browns’ move to Baltimore in 1996. This week’s postseason game will be the third since the 2009 season and a rematch of the…

Patriots Readying for ‘Battle’ in AFC Championship Rematch with Ravens

The New England Patriots know it will take their best effort Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC Championship and advance to the franchise's eighth Super Bowl.

On Sunday, the two best teams in the AFC will go head-to-head in Foxborough with a trip to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on the line … and that’s the way it should be. “It’s a game day battle out there,” New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. “They’ve got a good team, we’ve got a good team, and those games have come down to the wire.” For the second straight season, the AFC title game will feature the Patriots and Ravens at Gillette Stadium. Like many of the meetings between these two teams over the past decade, last January’s conference championship game came down to just a few plays in a 23-20 Patriots victory. “We know it will be a big challenge for us this …

A limited number of tickets to the Jan. 20 AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough go on sale to the general public on Thursday, Jan. 17.

That game will be played at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. against the Baltimore Ravens. It is the second consecutive season the Patriots and Ravens will meet in the AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium. New England beat Baltimore in last season’s AFC title game, 23-20 to advance to Super Bowl XLVI. The Patriots are 7-1 all-time in AFC Championship Games, including 4-0 in Foxborough (3-0 at Gillette Stadium) but just 1-1 against the Ravens in the postseason. Belichick: ‘It’s a Great Honor’ to Participate in Another AFC Championship Game

The New England Patriots will play in the AFC Championship Game for the seventh time under head coach Bill Belichick Sunday when the team takes on the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium.

On Sunday, the New England Patriots will play in their seventh AFC Championship Game under head coach Bill Belichick and fourth in Foxborough. For Belichick, the NFL’s third most winningest head coach in the postseason, a trip to a conference championship game never gets old. “Of course we’re excited to be heading into the AFC Championship game against the Ravens,” Belichick said Monday. “It’s a great honor, really, to participate in the game; to be playing for the right to represent the AFC the following week.” Standing in the way of the Patriots returning to the Super Bowl for a second straight season and eighth time in franchise history is a familiar opponent in Baltimore. The Ravens defeated the Patriots, 31-30 in Week 3 of the regular…

PHOTOS: Patriots Beat Texans to Advance to AFC Championship Game

The New England Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens for the second consecutive season in the AFC Championship game next Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Winner advances to Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

On Saturday the galaxy aligned for the AFC Championship game to return to Foxborough for a second straight season after the Baltimore Ravens upset the Denver Broncos, 38-35 in double overtime of the AFC Divisional Round. All that stood between the Patriots and a return to the AFC Championship game was a Lone Star - the Houston Texans. On Sunday, that star burned out in Foxborough as the Patriots rolled past Houston, 41-28. Now, for the fifth time in team history, the AFC Championship game will be played in Foxborough. The Patriots are 4-0 all-time in AFC title games at home and 7-1 overall. "It’s good to be able to play in the AFC Championship Game next week," said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. "I’m really proud of our players; I …

In an article in Tuesday's Baltimore Sun, Mansfield's Jennifer Royle says she is leaving her reporting beat covering the Baltimore Ravens for WJX-FM (105.7) The Fan at the end of the season to return to Boston.

Could be Mansfield's Jennifer Royle appearing on the Boston media sports scene shortly? Royle told the Baltimore Sun she is leaving covering the Baltimore Ravens on WJX-FM (105.7) at the end of the NFL season to return to Boston.
