Mansfield's Wiseman Makes College Debut at Vanderbilt University

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman made his debut in his first college game for Vanderbilt University, pinch-hitting and playing centerfield.

  Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman made his collegiate debut for the Vanderbilt University baseball team in their season opening 10-4 win over Long Beach State, Friday afternoon in Nashvlle. Wiseman went 0-1 in a pinch-hitting and had one putout in centerfielder. The freshman out of Buckingham, Browne & Nichols is playing in the same outfielder as Mike Yastrzemski, the grandson of Boston Red Sox hall of famer Carl Yastrzemski. Vanderbilt is ranked No. 2 in the country and is predicted to win the Southeastern Conference East title. In the Sporting News Baseball Preview, the Commodores are ranked as the eighth-best team in the country. Mansfield's Wiseman Helps Brockton Rox to Playoffs

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman and his Brockton Rox teammates captured the fourth and final playoffs in their first season in the New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

  For the Brockton Rox, their first season inn the New England Futures Collegiate Baseball League ended with a two-game series sweep at the ends of the Nashua Silver Knights. The Rox, whose season ended on Aug. 13, made a late season run to claim the fourth and final playoff spot in the league by finishing with a 29-23 record. Norton High head baseball and football coach Ted Currie was an assistant head coach for the Rox. Here's how the local Rox players did this summer: Mansfield-Rhett Wiseman, outfielder-.224 batting average, going 41 for 183 in 48 games, three homers, three RBI and 13 steals. Mansfield's Wiseman drives in a run, scores one in Brockton Rox's win

In the Brockton Rox's 9-2 win over the Pittsfield Suns Sunday, Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman drove in and scored a run.

  Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman had a single and scored a run as the Brockton Rox defeated Pittsfield Suns, 9-2, at Wahconah Park on Sunday afternoon in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action. Wiseman, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the June draft, was batting in the leadoff spot and drove in a run. On the year, he is hitting .227 on the year East Bridgewater native Greg Baggett (Bentley) highlighted a seven-run rally in the fifth inning with a two-run homer to help the Brockton Rox take down the Pittsfield Suns, 9-2, at Wahconah Park on Sunday afternoon in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action. Mansfield's Wiseman Hits First Homer for Brockton Rox

Rhett Wiseman's homer wasn't enough to give the Brockton Rox the win over the Seacoast Mavericks Thursday night on the road.

  Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman, a draft choice of the Chicago Cubs who is headed to Vanderbilt University, hit a solo homer in the Birockton Rox's 5-3 loss to the Seacoast Mavericks in Rochester, N.H. Thursday night. It was his first homer of the year in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. Seacoast's Anyelo Roman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the night as the Rox fell to 1-5 on the year. The left-handed hitting outfield is batting .280 in six games for the Rox as the only high school player on the Rox. He recently graduated from Buckingham, Browne & Nichols. The Rox will be hosting the Martha's Vineyard Sharks Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Drafted by Chicago Cubs, Mansfield's Wiseman Elects to go to Vanderbilt University

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 25th round of this year's MLB draft, but instead, will play with the Brockton Rox in the Futures Baseball League this summer.

When major league baseball teams called Monday night, Rhett Wiseman had a price tag for giving up the chance to attend Vanderbilt University in the fall to turn pro. While he was watching the draft with his friends at his house in Mansfield, Wiseman took calls from major league teams wondering if he would give up college to play for their teams. Major league teams had a fixed price for each tag pick in the early rounds. "I got a few calls," he said. "Teams told me that they would love to take me. "Respectfully, I told them I was going to college." Mansfield's Wiseman Waits for Word from MLB Draft

Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman is expected to be taken in this week's major league draft, which starts today.

  It's now a waiting game for Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman as the Major League Draft is starting today and will run until Wednesday. Wiseman, a senior at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, is rated as a top outfielder prospect. The 5-11, 187-pounder is a left-handed hitter with speed on the bases and in the outfield. When he is drafted, Wiseman will have a decision to make on whether to sign with a professional team or attend Vanderbilt University. He is going to get use to college baseball by playing for the Brockton Rox in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Baseball America projects him to be a fifth round selection. Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman, who is expected to be a top pick in the major league baseball draft June 4, has signed a contract to play for the Brockton Rox in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League this summer.

  The Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) announced the signing of Mansfield's Rhett Wiseman, a senior outfielder at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Mass. Wiseman is widely regarded as the top high school baseball prospect in New England. The left-handed hitting center fielder is expected to be selected within the first 100 picks of the 2012 MLB Draft on June 4, and according to many scouts, could go as high as the first round. ESPNHS has him ranked 42nd among high school seniors, while MLB Draft Guide has him ranked 47th overall.
