TELL US: Was Euthanizing Milo the Right Decision?

Do you agree with the decision to euthanize Milo or is there an alternative action that should of been taken?

After becoming a local story of interest, the three-year-old pointer hound mutt named Milo was put down yesterday after attacking two people and raising the issue of whether a dog should be put down in this type of situation. At the public hearing for the first attack on Feb. 27, Heather Bailey recalled the incident that led to the attack. After picking up six year old Christian Hebert from his bus stop Jan. 3 to babysit him, she needed to go into her house to get the key to Herbert's home across the street. While inside the Bailey house, Herbert went to pet the sleeping dog while Bailey went into another room to get a video game. Once she left the room, that is when the dog struck the child. "When I got the video game, that's when I heard…

Yet you feel it's okay for anyone over there to chastise everything you think this town did wrong in this case? Are you European? I guess you aren't familiar with the ubiquitous use of "over the pond" that we use here. And HJ- good morning! How are you doing today? You're in a good mood! Good to see! Careful driving in the snow today- lousy roads. Hope you don't have to head out to 95/495 between…   more ›

Milo the Dog Euthanized by Town

According to animal control officer Jeff Collins, Milo was euthanized Monday afternoon.

After biting a second person over the weekend, Milo the dog was euthanized during the afternoon of March 4 according to animal control officer Jeff Collins. On Saturday, the owner's 16-year old daughter, Ashley Bailey was attacked inside her home by the pointer basset hound and was transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital to receive treatment from the incident. The teenager suffered serious injuries to her face but her current condition is unknown. Originally, the family planned to appeal last Wednesday's decision by the selectmen to euthanize the dog, but has since given the dog to animal control and signed it over to the town, making the dog the property of the Town of Mansfield. The order to put down Milo came in response to the dog's …

Paul, how do you know Milo was trained to bite people? If you believe that dogs get a taste for "human flesh and blood", I think you ought to watch The Dog Whisperer and get educated about the nature of a dog. Frankly I am appalled by the hateful comments toward dogs that I am reading here. You need some education to balance your emotions with facts.   more ›

Milo the Dog Attacks Again, Teenage Girl Sent to Hospital

The dog already ordered to be euthanized has once again attacked a person.

Only three days after the public hearing where Mansfield selectmen ordered Milo to death, the pointer basset hound has allegedly attacked again according to CBS Boston. According to the report, a teenage girl was attacked on West Street on the evening of March 2 and was taken to Hasbro Children Hospital in Rhode Island for treatment. The dog has been taken into custody by animal control according to Selectman Olivier Kozolowski. Although a pet usually cannot be taken away during the 10 day appeal period after a hearing, the town can quarantine an animal after a bite. The family did give permission to take Milo. Last Wednesday, the Board of Selectman voted 3-2 in favor of euthanizing Milo after the dog attacked a six year old boy on January…
