Phish Fine Dropped

Phish will no longer have to pay the $800 overage fine.

Even though $850 seems a small price to pay for the mega machine Phish, selectmen forgave both the Comcast Center venue and the band Wednesday, saying the three-minute overtime for the last tune at the June 7 concert was not so bad for a group that features "improvisational rock." The celebrated Vermont band launched its final number shortly before the 11 p.m. curfew specified in the entertainment license, but went three minutes over, causing selectmen to call Montgomery in for a meeting. According to the specifications of the license, the venue is charged for every person attending the concert, according to the number of minutes the concert extends past the deadline. Comcast Center's Summer Season Beginning

The Comcast Center's 2011 summer season is gearing up for opening night, with Sugarland performing on May 20. Mansfield selectmen granted the venue and Comcast general manager Bruce Montogmery their yearly entertainment license Wednesday, but not without a few pointed questions from selectman George Dentino, who held out unsuccessfully for an earlier cutoff to the serving of liquor, half an hour before the scheduled end of each concert. Montgomery said it has been the practice of the venue for some time to stop serving liquor at least by 10:30, but resisted Dentino's attempt to put that restriction in writing.
